BOOM!

And ta-dah!

Here we are!

Let Teacher Pei Pei give you a little introduction about the Amazonia forest.

This rainforest has extremely poor soil quality. Therefore, as plants die, their parts are quickly decomposed and the next generation of plants recycles the nutrients they contained. Without this process, the soil is too poor to support sustained plant growth.

There are many plants and animals hiding in the rainforest. Some examples are:

Plants: Fern, Brazil Nut, Banana, Palm trees (many varieties), Coffee, Kapok, Cocoa, Orchid, Vanilla, Passion flower, Cashew, Mahogany, Rubber Fungus

Animals
: Anaconda, Ant, Anteater, Beetle, Boa constrictor, Pit viper, Butterfly, Cockroach, Electric eel, Catfish, Frog, Pink dolphin, Grasshopper, Monkeys (many varieties), Jaguar, Puma, Parrot, Crow, Mosquito, Bot fly, Parrot, Tarantula, Bat, Termite

NOW, Your Task!

  1. Research on the organisms living in the Amazon rainforest from the list above.
  2. Create a food web to show the interrelationship among them.
  3. Post your food web on our class wiki-page.
  4. Comment on one of your classmates' food web.

Okay! Back to Urban Life in Singapore!

Reflections

Using blogging as one of the methods to teach is not an easy way. Firstly, it is not a common method as it requires the teacher to think of an innovative way to create a learning blog for students. Secondly, it may not be the most effective way to learn certain topics or certain subjects. From this course, however, I have learnt a few tools to create a learning blog for a class of students. Some of these methods are wikipages and podcasting.

The use of blogs is also an ingenious way to communicate with students online as most students are "well-versed" in the "art of internet". Blogging might serve to be the next most effective way to engage students in learning when classroom learning fails. However, teachers should take note not to blog for the sake of blogging but blog with the purpose of creating effective learning.
